Loopy on meds and cycling between sweats and chills, so sad. But I have a report on The Sex Files: (1) sex between random people = not a turn-on for me; Mulder's hand hovering over the doorknob to Scully's room, wanting to see her but afraid to reach out = a turn-on; (2) bad actors desperately trying to remember the obviously-more-complex-than-they're-used-t o dialogue sometimes, though only sometimes, come off with a pretty good Mulderish/Scullyish flat affect. Other times it's just funny. (3) When Mulder watched porn, as is his wont, they actually showed the porn, for an extended period. (4) The final M/S scene was played differently than the other sex scenes, like they really loved each other but for some reason had to try all these different positions and have a money shot the first time. Anyway, I offer you the credits and first post-credit sequence, no sex at all, but the visuals and music are creditable versions of the real thing. External shots of the FBI building!

Perceptive observers alerted me to the existence of The Sex Files, which apparently has a real plot along with its Mulder/Scully action; Scully looks a lot like GA, at least in the tiny pictures. I have the DVD now and will report back on whether the Truth is In There. Visual porn rarely works for me, but perhaps M&S can change my mind. Or some other organ. Funny law review typo of the day: “they cloak themselves in the mantel of protectors of the innocent.” Sounds painful. Or at least requiring superheroic strength.

I decided to write up a list of vids I never get tired of, trying to limit myself to one per fandom except SPN, which means a large number got excluded. It’s also interesting to see which from my old recs post have become “rewatch a lot” vids. I’m definitely trending to faster cuts, but I still love my emo porn. ( Angel, BSG, Chuck, Dark Angel, Doctor Who, Farscape, Firefly, Heroes, Highlander, Iron Man, Legend of the Seeker, Multi, QAFUS, RPV, Smallville, Star Trek TOS, SGA, Supernatural, X-Files )

Tell It Slant Rating: NC-17 Classification: XAR (remember that?) Notes: Set somewhere around the sixth season; peels off before Biogenesis, because I wrote Deny Nothing so long ago. Most of this story is ten years old. I wouldn’t have written Deny Nothing today, nor this, but Deny Nothing is out there—like the truth, I guess—and azephirin asked for “a month after Deny Nothing.” I found this on my computer, so it seemed like a reasonable thing to do to finish it up. Thanks to flourish for lightning-fast comments. ( Motto: Tell all the truth but tell it slant-- )

I did some XF recs at halfamoon a while back. And everyone who watches the Sarah Connor Chronicles should go read Jayne's Demon Hand episode tag! It has a very scary robot and a very scared human.
In lieu of a commentary track, I thought I'd post parts of the emails mustangsally78 and I exchanged soon after she proposed what would become Iolokus. Sadly, I don't have the initial emails, only my replies. At least I quoted a lot. Herewith, portions of the correspondence labeled "As Sure as Eggs Is Eggs," December 1997. Original summary by MS is black. MS's replies to me are in blue. RT is in red. (I'm Heather Chandler!) I think there's interesting stuff here, about the false starts and surprises of writing, collaboration, feminism and reproduction, and (for cathexys) intertextuality, both with fannish and nonfannish texts. ( we were writers once, and young )
Stories I’m not writing (that aren’t even half as scary as the summaries collected by svmadelyn here): 1. The Asimovesque shaggy-dog story (think “The Foys of Sortibrackenstrete,” if I spelled that right) about attempted hybridization of alien and earth animals with the punchline, “She’s all cat and no Hattle.” 2. The smokin’ hot Weir/Lorne story set after ( spoilers for most recent episode outside the US )3. The sequel to the second of my “Five Things” SV story, in which Clark is instead Mary, the last daughter of Krypton, and Lex is so angry at Mary’s lies that they have vicious (and extended!) sex that still TOUCHES LEX’S SOUL. And because it’s okay for a 22-year-old man to fuck a 16-year-old girl but not a 16-year-old boy, social conventions don’t keep them apart and they live happily ever after. Thus did homophobia make Lex evil. 4. The sequel to Iolokus that’s a redo of Face/Off with Mulder and Krycek. It’s fifteen years later, Miranda is rebellious jailbait, as is Bram (the boy twin), Scully is (still) resentful, and Mulder does an extra-sekrit ditch – now with facelift! Krycek takes Mulder’s face in return, gives Scully the ride of her life, and starts seducing the kids. (I am not making this up. mustangsally78 and I spent hours plotting this. I own a copy of Face/Off for research purposes. In our defense, I don’t think the final shootout was going to feature doves. Stabbing, but not doves. If you ever wondered how seriously we took the whole thing by the time we got to Syadiloh and that name didn't satisfy your curiousity, this should.)
Paul and Sarah Redmond, a Nip/Tuck story, NC-17, Christian/Quentin, Christian/Kimber, AU after "Madison Berg," which is when I plotted it -- and I'm pretty thankful I did, given what happened later. And yes, it's a crossover, though I don't think you have to know that for the story to make sense.

Still working on the others (SV and Veronica Mars, in which I'm considering doing one of the crazywrong pairings suggested by scribblinlenore's poll). They will come, I promise. ( two X-Files snippets )

I'm finally over my bitterness enough to rewatch the X-Files. Now nearing the end of Season 3, I must say that Teso dos Bichos really doesn't stand out as the fount of badness. I think coming right after Pusher and having no relationship moments at all made fandom bitter about it. The stuffed cat didn't help either, but honestly, it wasn't that much worse than many of S3's monsters of the week. ( nonfiction: gifts, copyright, sociology, sin, candy )
